  1. Take it slow and easy at first. You will find your groove and pace in time. Don't push it so hard you burn out early.
  2. Trust your team to support you when you need, and be sure to help your teammates out when they're on course.
  3. While relaying is challenging, the reward will waiting for you when you finish.
  4. Remember to have *fun*!

Andleeb - My advice to new relayers is to go with the flow and just have fun. Leave the clipboard behind and run each leg as it happens.

  1. Know your legs! Understanding your course ahead of time will pay off on the day of the relay. By preparing for the different ups and downs, you’ll know when it’s time to pick up the pace or dial it back.
  2. Be flexible. Relays can be chaotic. If something unexpected happens, go with the flow and try not to worry about things outside of your control.
  3. Listen to your body. Unlike other races, relays last all day and sometimes longer. A lot can happen during that time, so stay hydrated, remember to fuel regularly, and try to stretch or move your legs between runs.
  4. Stay clean! Your experience will be much more positive if you bring a change of clothes and a new outfit for each leg you’re running. Also try to bring travel soap or cleansing wipes. You (and your teammates!) will be thankful that you’re practicing good hygiene.
  5. Have a good attitude. No matter whether you’re running with friends or meeting people for the first time, relays are a team experience. Support your fellow van mates, stay positive and remember that you’re each working for the same goal.

Miranda - If you are new to relays, The Gorgeous Series is great.  They do monthly runs to build camaraderie and allow you to do different distances to challenge yourself.  The Pub Relay is a great one to get you in the groove and all of the relays have amazing scenery and very little pressure.  Hope to see you out there!

Rick - My only word of advice for new relayers is this - be prepared to sign up for more because they are wildly addictive!

Tiffany
  1. Leave all modesty at home.
  2. Be prepared for a ton of fun and laughs
  3. Do NOT I repeat DO NOT try new foods on relay day.
  4. Don't give up, believe in yourself and try your best, even if you are last across the finish line all that matters is you had fun and you gave it your all!
